Doing the splits & crawling
Maggie has figured out how to get from a sitting position to crawling...and the fun begins! She has figured out that the best way to do it is to lean forward and do the splits, it is the cutest thing ever! We just might have a little dancer or gymnast on our hands (that would be interesting...). Also, her splits move kind of reminds me of Catherine Zeta-Jones in "Entrapment".

Maggie Playing Ball
Maggie loves her ball! My friend made it and gave it to me for my baby shower. It is so cute, and has a little rattle inside it, which adds to the fun! We love getting on the floor and playing with this little cutie:

Videos of Maggie at 7 & 8 Months Old
Maggie has been doing some fun things lately. I've been able to catch them on my phone, but they're so big that sharing them is difficult. So, here are some videos from the last little while:
It looks like Maggie likes sweet potatoes about as much as her daddy. She's thrown up twice and dry heaves a good bit while she's eating it.
Maggie likes the sound effects and the whipping stuff around
Chelsea just started wiggling her back and forth and she thought that was hilarious. She knows what my camera is for and calms down when she sees it.
Maggie is now playing peek a boo on her own. It took a little coaxing but you can see her eventually put the burp rag to her face and take it down.
Now, the best part! Maggie talks by saying different little things. We can keep her talking by repeating what she says. She gets excited and keeps talking. It seems like the easiest thing for her to say is "aba/ada". So I was repeating that back to her and she kept saying it. Then, I said "Dada" and she repeated. I tried it again and she repeated. So, I pulled out my phone and tried to get it on camera. Unfortunately, she gets excited when I film her so she didn't do it so good.
She also dances every time she says Dada now, which is awesome.

Family Hike
Last Saturday we decided to go on a hike as a family. South Carolina Santa gave Joe a hiking baby carrier for Maggie (and any future babies). It is awesome! It holds up to a 40 lb child, and has a backpack for anything else we want to carry (water bottle, snacks, cell phones). We had a blast, and it was the first time Maggie got to be in "nature". She seemed to really enjoy herself, and I have to say that I definitely had the best view. Every time I looked over at her she was just smiling! It was a little cold outside, so we were sure to bundle her up in three sleepers, a knit hat, a hood, and mittens. She looked like the little brother on A Christmas Story. The hike was on Dinky Mountain, right behind the campus of Southern Virginia University. It was close enough to civilization to make me comfortable, but we still got to feel like we were really in nature.
Here is a link to a video I took of our happy baby and her daddy on our hike.

A Day With Maggie (on her 6 month birthday)
In my last post, I decided to tell you what Maggie is up to lately. In this post I'll show you a typical day at home with her, in pictures and videos. Enjoy:
Trying to grab the camera. She looks a lot like Joe as a baby in this picture.
Her awesome hair line from sleeping on her back and wispy skullet. Big Daddy (Joe's dad) has the same red birth mark.
Hanging out with daddy, right after he fed her solids for the first time. She loved rice cereal!
Here is a link to some videos I took today of Maggie playing, waking up, laughing, hearing her name, tuning over, trying to crawl, not taking her nap, and eating rice cereal for the first time. She's pretty darn cute. Make sure to watch all 7 videos:

Maggie is 6 Months Old!
We can't believe it, time has really flown. Our tiny little baby is a big girl, and we can't even call her an infant anymore. She is such a sweet little girl, and almost everyone that sees her says that she's such a "happy baby". Here are some examples of a day with Maggie:
- Smiles at strangers all the time, and seems to be pretty outgoing
- We have so much fun with her, and there's never a dull moment. We never get tired of hearing her contagious laugh
- Has been babbling a lot lately. We've noticed that she likes to say "a-da-da-da-da" when she's happy, and her cries sound a lot like "maaauw-maaauw-maaauw". Hmm, I hope that doesn't become a habit
- When we put her on her back to play, she almost immediately turns over (almost always to the left, she's not an "ambi-turner")
- Doesn't mind playing on her tummy for long periods of time, and has started doing "mini-pushups"
- Has started moving her legs like she wants to crawl and has started pushing her butt up in the air just a little. We're definitely not rushing things though (speaking of, we should probably start baby proofing. Yikes, and so it begins...)
- Turns her head when we say her name, which is so fun
- Loves looking in the mirror, and will reach for herself
- Stands when we support her hands
- Sits on her own for about 20 seconds on the carpet with no support. When we put a Boppy pillow around her, she can go for around 5 minutes
- Loves to hear us sing, and loves her jam sessions with daddy playing guitar and singing
- Has been exclusively breast-fed for the past 6 months, and it has been wonderful. I am so grateful have the ability to breastfeed, because I know a lot of moms aren't able to. Daddy has given her a bottle of pumped milk every so often, and has been pretty good at taking a bottle too
- We will try giving her some solids soon. I plan on continuing to breastfeed until she's a least a year old, along with solids mixed in
- Usually takes about three naps every day, and sleeps around 8-10 hours straight per night
- Has to have something soft on her face, like a blanket, to fall asleep
- Usually needs her pacifier ("paci") to fall asleep, and is trying to master the art of pulling it out and putting it back in by herself (can't wait until she does)
- Sleeps on her back in her sleep-sack, with her arms out and an extra blanket (which she grabs, and uses to rub on her face)
- LOVES her mommy's hair, like a little too much. When I'm leaning over her, she loves it to touch her face, and of course loves to grab it. Sometimes if she's particularly fussy, my magic hair on her face will calm her down and get her to sleep. Kind of weird, but it works, haha
- She sleeps on her back in her sleep-sack, with her arms out and an extra blanket (which she uses to rub on her face)
- Has no hair on the upper back of her head (from sleeping on her back), with a wispy "skullet" at the bottom of her head. She starting to get a tiny bit more hair on the top and sides of her head, with a reddish tint in certain lights
- The shape of her head kind of resembles Casper... in a beautiful way
- She sleeps on her back in her sleep-sack, with her arms out and an extra blanket (which she uses to rub on her face)
- Grabs at everything, and is very curious
- Weight: 15 lbs, 13 oz (45%)
- Height: 26 in (60%)
- Head Circumference: 17 in (80%)
Joe had to work, so it was just Maggie and me at the checkup. Dr. Dubit (who my parents also go to) asked how tall Maggie's dad is. When I told him he is 5'9", he said, "Ok, well that makes sense. That explains why she's not Lund-sized." We were all huge babies, like off the growth charts...I know, shocking. I thought that was pretty funny. He did assure me that she is perfectly healthy, and he's "very impressed".
We are so blessed to have such a healthy and happy baby girl!
